Golden Handcuffs is the story of an extraordinary woman’s journey. We fall in love with her as we live with her through the longing for those absent as well as the joy of discovery—of self and the world.”

“Sinha grabs us by the hand and takes us with her on her journey. Golden Handcuffs, a window into her life, shows us what we all should know about the inner turmoil and growth that comes with being a young immigrant woman.”

My Writing Journey

Writing an honest account of everything that transpired in my life in the form of a memoir has been a long, arduous journey. Seven years long. My desire to write “Golden Handcuffs” stems from a need to heal myself and to offer hope to countless immigrant women in the United States, who continue to suffer just like I did. Somewhere along the way, writing my story has allowed me to find meaning, love, and community in America, my new home.
Finishing off this project would have been incomplete without my coach and mentor Amanda Turner and creative resources such as NaNoWriMo and The Write Practice that allowed me to flesh out the first draft of my book. Communities like Brooklyn Women’s Writing Group and Focused Space also helped me along the way, giving me structured time to get words on page. I also workshopped some of the fledgling chapters of my story at Sackett Street Writers in Brooklyn.

Golden Handcuffs is not only an autobiographical story but also the story of each and every woman in the world who lives positively making the best efforts for self-actualization, beyond any borders, barriers, and difference of skin color, which is merely created by the politicians of the world. In that sense, the story contains extremely contemporary issues and so it will stimulate the interests of readers, involving them in the story”

“A spirited girl faces a strange world, then digs deep within herself and finds ways to cope with and thrive in her new environment...Sinha’s journey will resonate with and inspire all of us who are also coming to grips with a world that has suddenly become very strange to us. This story is a reminder that our most fascinating journeys are the ones we take within.”

“Sometimes, a book comes along that grabs you, and takes you on part of a journey with someone who may be quite unlike you in personality, circumstance, and character. They interest you in particulars of their life, make you look at things differently, change forever the way you look at people you walk past in a mall. The book gives you hope, understanding, and deep appreciation for those who travel huge physical and cultural distances to make home, to find themselves. They make you believe. Suitcase is that book.”
